Gabby Ripka, 17, was running errands for her family at the grocery store when it dawned on her that an elderly couple at the checkout counter likely fell into the high-risk category for COVID After a call with friends, all of whom believed there was a need for services to aid elderly and immunocompromised people, they launched Teen Community Against COVID, a delivery service with branches in New York, New Jersey, Florida, and Connecticut. Gabby is one of thousands of young adults trying to figure out what summer will look like as internships and summer jobs evaporate and the unemployment rate continues to soar. Struck by the weight of this unprecedented moment, many are stepping up to be of service where they can.
